Get involved
Become a member of VIPIRG
Every undergraduate and graduate student at UVic is automatically a member of VIPIRG. UVic faculty, staff, former students, and general community members can join by mailing in or dropping off a membership form.
Subscribe to our listservs
In addition to the listservs of our working groups, we also have two general listservs set up to help members share information.
- VIPIRG-events: announcements of upcoming VIPIRG events
- VIPIRG-joblist: social/environmental justice job postings
- VIPIRG-urban-ag: connecting people involved in urban agriculture in greater Victoria and elsewhere.
Attend VIPIRG events
These are listed on VIPIRG news and sent out in our events listserve.
Get involved in an action campaign
Want to take action? Get involved in an existing working group, event, or special project, or suggest a new campaign idea.
Become part of the coordinating collective
The coordinating collective (“coord”) oversees VIPIRG and is responsible for financial decisions, supervision of staff, and long-term planning. The coord is elected every year by students and community members. There are ten seats on the coord, with eight seats reserved for UVic students and two seats for community members. If you're interested in running for the coord, contact us and ask about a coord nomination form.
Help with general volunteer work
Volunteers help keep the VIPIRG office and resource library running smoothly, help with events, work on the newsletter, and assist with outreach to students and community members. Possible tasks include:
- helping keep the resource library organized and directing people to the resources they're looking for
- helping promote VIPIRG events and campaigns (e.g., designing posters/flyers, putting posters up around campus and in the broader community)
- maintaining the VIPIRG bulletin board
- helping organize, run, and set up/take down VIPIRG events
- setting up and staffing a VIPIRG table at campus and community events
- helping write, edit, and lay out the VIPIRG newsletter
- creating public education materials
- helping keep the office clean and tidy
