The Vancouver Island Public Interest Research Group (VIPIRG) is a non-profit organization dedicated to research, education, advocacy, and action in the public interest. Located in the Student Union Building of the University of Victoria, VIPIRG is a place where students and community members connect to work together on social justice and environmental issues.
Students and community members oversee VIPIRG through a volunteer coordinating collective. VIPIRG staff and volunteers organize events, do action-oriented community-based research, sustain action over time through ongoing working groups, and publish educational materials based on VIPIRG’s current list of priorities.
Students and community members can borrow from VIPIRG’s alternative resource library. This library houses books, magazines, zines and videos on a range of social, political and environmental issues. Check it out!

The Automated Project aims to bring students, staff and faculty together to resist the neoliberal restructuring of post-secondary education
This spring, Homes Not Prisons is taking these findings to city officials, demanding changes to city bylaws and policing practices…
Through the community tool shed project, local Indigenous families are providing guidance on priorities and the where, when, and how for visitors to join in this work collectively and respectfully.
Please join us to share knowledge about existing projects and allied organizations (Society of Living Illicit Drug Users, Beddow Centre), and to pool our resources to build a strong, focused anti-poverty movement in Victoria.
